Review Budget Spending

Goal: Compare planned budget amounts with current spending so you can spot overspend, missing allocations, or records that need review.

Budget spending is only useful when expenses are recorded against the correct accounts or budget lines. If a figure looks wrong, check the underlying expense records before changing the budget.

Before you start

  • A budget must already exist.
  • Budget details should be entered.
  • Expenses should be allocated consistently to the correct accounts or budget areas.

Steps

### Open the budget

Open Finance, go to Budgets, and select the budget you want to review.

Check the summary figures

Review the budget total and current spending. These figures give you the first indication of whether spending is aligned with the plan.

Review the budget details

Open the budget detail section and compare each planned line with the spending recorded against it.

Investigate unusual figures

If spending looks too high, too low, or missing, open the related expense records and check their dates, accounts, and allocations.

Share or report the result

Use the available export or reporting tools if you need to send the budget position to the captain, owner representative, or shore office.

Result

You understand the current budget position and know which lines are on track, which need investigation, and which may require updated planning.
